THE JOY OF SAKE
Global event, now in its 18thyear, visits London for the first time this autumn
The Joy of Sake is the largest sake festival outside Japan, with annual tastings in Honolulu, New Yorkand Tokyo. Sake fans gather from around the world for this unparalleled opportunity to taste hundreds of premium labels in peak condition, representing every sake-brewing region in Japan.
The Joy of Sake originated in Honolulu, where the first sake brewery outside Japan was founded in 1908. It soon spread to San Francisco, New York and, in 2010, Tokyo. This year marks the event’s U.K. debut, in recognition of London’s emergence as the most dynamic sake scene in Europe.
Joy of Sake London on September28 will feature 478 sakes in peak condition, shipped to the U.K. in an unbroken chill chain from the breweries in Japan. Fifty percent are in the ultra- premium daiginjo category, and over 200 are not otherwise available outside Japan.
Since sake is a convivial drink that blooms in the presence of delicious food, top London restaurants have been invited to create sake-themed appetizers for the event. The £75 ticket price includes self-serve tastings of all 478 sakes and appetizers from the 14 participating restaurants.
